After Hello (based on One Night at the call centre) the latest is that Chetan Bhagat’s most recent novel The 3 Mistakes Of My Life will also be adapted into a motion picture and this time the makers are none other than Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment.

The film will be directed by Abhishek Kapoor who earlier directed the super-hit Rock On.

The film’s title and cast is yet to be decided upon and is likely to go on floors towards the end of this year or early next year.

After his acting debut Rock On bagged seven awards at the Filmfare Awards, director-actor Farhan Akhtar hopes to walk away with more awards at the forthcoming International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards.

“I have visited the IIFAs before and I am extremely hopeful that Rock On! will be nominated for the 10th year of IIFA awards,” said Farhan in a statement.

Arjun Rampal, who played an important role in Rock On!, too is upbeat about the voting weekend as he feels it is a very credible way of involving members of the film industry to nominate the deserving candidates for the awards.

After releasing Don – The Chase Begins as one of the mega Bollywood Diwali releases in 2006, director Farhan Akhtar is planning to release the sequel Don 2 in a Diwali bonanza in 2010.
According to Sources however have revealed that Priyanka Chopra will also be starring in the sequel opposite Shah Rukh Khan when the film goes to floor in April 2010. The director/actor/singer, who has recently led a full diary due to films Rock On!! and Luck By Chance, has no time to sit in the director’s chair until the summer of next year.

Don 2 which is said to be a continuation of Don has been in the pipeline for a while with the script currently being prepared by Farhan Akhtar, who is also handling the pre-production work required for the film.

Less than six months after making his debut as an actor/singer in Rock On, Farhan Akhtar is back as a leading man. Luck By Chance is the film in question which sees him as a solo lead while being paired opposite Konkona Sen Sharma. Even though as producers, he and Ritesh Sidhwani are going ahead with a ’subtle promotion’ philosophy while letting audiences explore the film by themselves, there are still good hopes from this directorial debut of Zoya Akhtar.

Rock On! Another release of this week from the makers of Dil Chahta Hai and Lakshya. Much before its release, the movie got lots and lots of publicity because of Farhan Akhtar (makes his debut as an actor and singer!) and rumors that it is Dil Chahta Hai Part 2.

ROCK ON is the story of four friends [Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Luke Kenny] once-aspiring musicians who chucked up their dream of taking their band (named Magik) professional because of friction among the band members. But a reunion arranged by Prachi Desai (who plays Farhan’s wife) ten years later inspires them to consider returning together again and set them on a journey back to where they left off. The movie starts with the fast track “socha hai” and then slows down as it progresses.

Rock On as a movie is strong on the technical side with amazing Cinematography, Screenplay and the dialogues but fails miserably when it comes to the Story. Story of Rock On is predictable and one can easily guess what is going to happen in the next scene. The area in which this movie scores well is the performances by all the actors. Farhan in his debut performance is simply superb and clearly justifies how he made his actors deliver their best performances in his movies. But one person whose performance stands out through out the film is Purab Kohli.

Overall the film isn’t great but it is watchable because its different. Its full of drama, emotions so don’t expect any entertainment out of it.

Ace director Farhan Akhtar makes his debut as an actor with the upcoming Bollywood flick Rock On! which is a story of four friends out to re-create their passion for music and art as they finally begin to live out their dream by forming a rock band.

Kapoor’’s film stars Prachi Desai, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Luke Kenny, Shahana Goswami and Koel Puri.

Farhan made his debut as a director and a writer with a box-office hit ”Dil Chahta Hai” in the year 2001. The film later bagged National Film Award for best feature film in Hindi.

Trio of Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonca have composed music of the film while Javed Akhtar has penned the lyrics.

Plethora of singers including Suraj Jagan, Raman Mahadevan, Caralisa, Dominique and Farhan Akhtar have lent their voice to the songs of the film.

Director Farhan Akhtar, who makes his acting and singing debut with Rock On, says his crooning for the film was essential to make the character authentic.

Releasing this Friday, the film narrates the story of four friends who put together a rock band but fail to make it a success. Years later, fate brings them back together to relive their cherished dream from where they had left off.

Other actors in the film include Arjun Rampal, Shahana Goswami, Luke Kenny, Koel Puri and Prachi Desai.

Farhan, who has sung six out of nine songs in the film, said that him singing for the lead vocalist’s character was their way of showing their sincerity towards the project.

The actor-director, who has made films like Dil Chahta Hai and Lakshya, said he has been inclined towards music much before the film came along.

As an actor, Farhan would be next seen in Luck by Chance and The Fakir of Venice. And as a director he will helm the shooting of Voice from the Sky later this year.

Farhan ready for his film

Looking relaxed at his Bandra seaside residence, Farhan Akhtar barely displays any signs of nervousness. as his maidon movie rock on is ready to hit the big screen as an actor.

Incidentally, the film also marks Farhan’s debut as a singer. Now that he’s finally taken the plunge as an actor, does he regret not doing it much earlier?

So is he prepared to handle all the female attention? “Oh, definitely. I’m already used to female attention all the time,” he laughs, adding, “All thanks to my mother, sister, wife and now daughters. I’ve always been the centre of their attention. Even my dogs are females.”

So what was it about Rock On that finally made him sign on the dotted line as an actor. “The chance to play a rockstar. I always wanted to be one as a kid. Just kiddin’, I thought the story was great and it’s more to do with emotions than glamour alone.” And is there any rockstar that he’s tried to mould his character on? “None really, I have consciously tried not to emulate anyone because no one can really ever be like them, that’s why they are music legends. I didn’t want it to look like a wannabe-ish character, so have tried to keep it real.” Talking about his experience Farhan says, “It never felt like we were shooting. We just got along very well and hit it off the very first day.”
